Hello Kevin, sat nam.

This is very creative. I love that you came up with this. Bir Kaur is right about the chanting though. There's a melody to it. The specific notes to each part of the mantra are:

Sa - A
Ta - G
Na - F
Ma - G

You may want to keep this in mind when you modify the audio. Keep up the good work and the meditation!

Patrick: Thanks for the link for that timer. It's just what I was thinking about this morning in my sadhana. I need a timer like that. Now I know how to get it.

Blessings,
Sat Dharm

:) I know what you mean about the second Whisper interval being alarming, . I will possibly look at fading the second whisper in over a few seconds or so, great feedback!....hee hee.....that makes me laugh though...it also happened to me the first 2 times I tried the timer.
:)

thanks Kevin!
This is brilliant! fabulous idea. Helped me so much to stay focused. And so freeing, not having to time each section.

I freaked my self out though, when the whisper voice came back after the silence. Nearly jumped off my sheep skin. ;-)

But really great tool.

Hello Bir Kaur!

That's great feedback thank you!!! If there is anything else you think can be improved please let me know.

Now that the timer is built I can easily modify the Audio loop for the out loud part.

Perhaps I can record a 4 second sequence from you or Guru Raj Kaur and even Hari. It would be nice to have a female/male voice option. I'll try to bring some kind of recording device to the next sessions.

Sat Nam,
Kevin

Sat Nam everyone,

To answer the question of chanting vs. singing... yes, you are chanting, however, in kirtan kriya there is a "melody" to the chanting. Chanting does not necessarily mean monotone. The way that we did the meditation in class is correct. The way it is done on this timer is not... sorry Kevin. If you don't remember how we did it in class, call Yoga West they will chant it to you over the phone :)
NOTE: The timer has been modified to correct the lack of melody...enjoy!

I do think though, that this timer is an EXCELLENT idea and I encourage you to modify it to correct the out loud chanting. I know many people who would love to have access to something like this.

Hey Guys

Thank you for the comments and feedback. The response has been pretty good so far on the SaTaNaMa Timer.

Patrick I like the link you sent regarding the Yoga Timer perhaps I may try to build something like that (online of course) as a more generic timer. I can see where that would be really useful too.

Sat nam Kevin K.

I like the web site and the message corner portion as well. There is a clock in this web site that I saw during the Yoga fair and they sell at Banyan Books. Its pricey but you can program (in memory) 3 timer sessions. Each session can can multiple times programed in it. I'm sure this type of thing was available 2 thousand years ago..... www.salubrion.com/products/ensoclock
